WINTER WONDERLAND Layout by Andrea Lake
Hi, Friends! My name is Andrea, and I am excited to share my first project as part of the 2024 Simple Stories Design Team. This marks my fourth year working with them, and I couldn’t be happier. I adore the products included in their collections—the designs, colors, and the quality of each item. To kick off 2024, I created a layout featuring the Winter Wonder collection, adding touches of the Woods Color Vibe Cardstock and even incorporating a few real sticks I picked from my backyard.
I began by creating my background. I trimmed a piece of white textured cardstock to 10 ¾”, added machine stitches around the edges, and framed it with three pieces of patterned paper. Using the Winter Wonder stencil and some white texture paste, I created a textured design, allowing it to dry while I worked on crafting paper sticks. For these, I cut twelve 5 ½” x 2” pieces of Color Vibe Woods cardstock and rolled them along the short side to create twelve 5 1/2“long paper sticks. I then ventured outside to my backyard, grabbing a few real sticks to mix with the paper ones, adding dimension to my background and creating a base for my photo and journaling.
I matted my photo using the same patterned papers I used to mat the white cardstock for the background. I then adhered this piece on top of the small wooden chipboard frame. Simple Stories chipboard frames are always a fantastic embellishment. They can be used to frame photos, mat photos, serve as mini album bases, decorate mini album covers and pages, and more. I am continually finding new ways to incorporate them into my projects. For my title, I used a foam sticker, a journaling piece for my journaling, and a mix of layered stickers, bits & pieces, the snowman from the page pieces, and decorative brads to finish embellishing my page.
I hope this project inspires you, and I encourage you to grab this beautiful collection to document your winter memories this season. I’d love to see what you create with it.
