Hi friends, it's Rebecca Moore @preciouspagespapercraft with you today, sharing my very first blog post for Simple Stories. I hope that over the next 12 months you enjoy what I create, and feel inspired to create yourselves. For my first project, I am working with the gorgeous Winter Wonder collection. This is a beautiful wintery collection with soft colours and gorgeous elements perfect for all your winter projects.
When working with a new collection, I like to pick my favourite patterned papers and use those as my starting point and let inspiration do its thing! I selected 5 patterned papers from the 12x12 collectors pack that I loved and cut one 6.5 x 6.5-inch square from each. I arranged these on top of each other, in the centre of a sheet of white cardstock, changing the angles of them slightly so that only the corners were peeking out from each one. I purposely kept the top paper centred and straight as it has text on it, so I wanted this to be the correct orientation.
On top of the papers, I added my photo and title. One of my favourite Simple Stories products are the Foam Stickers. I go straight to these for my title every single time, and this layout was no exception. I selected the title 'Winter' as not only did it fit perfectly on the layout, but the colours coordinated well with my papers too.
I then selected some die cuts from the Bits and Pieces and Floral Bits packets. These packs are both super generous with 66 and 73 pieces respectively. They will last me forever! I arranged the florals going diagonally through my photo and the other 'bits' over to the right of the layout to help balance the page out.
Once I was happy with the position of everything, I stuck it all together. I like to use a lot of craft foam between layers on my layouts to introduce lots of dimension and depth. It means my layouts are sometimes bulky, and I can't fit as many in an album as other people - but this really doesn't bother me! So long as I'm enjoying creating, and I end up with a project I love, that's all that matters to me.
As often happens with me, once I'd stuck everything together, I decided I wanted to add some mixed media to my background. It is for this reason that I stick everything together, but don't actually stick anything down to my background until the end. (I've learnt my lesson the hard way many times!) I reached for my Distress Oxide in the shade ' Speckled Egg' as it matches the Winter Wonder collection perfectly - a match made in heaven! I applied the ink to my background using a brayer, and then on top of this I added the same ink through the Snow Flurries 6x8 stencil to add some snowflakes. To finish the background off, I also brayered some Nuvo Glimmer Paste over the ink to give it some sparkle.
Once the background was dry, I adhered everything to it using double sided tape, and finished the layout off with the addition of some leafy cardstock stickers and some of the gorgeous glitter enamel dots. I love that these enamel dots have a bit of sparkle to match the glimmer paste!
Thank you so much for reading! I hope you've enjoyed this layout and it's offered you some inspiration. There are so many beautiful elements in this collection so do be sure to check it out on the Simple Stories website.
See you next time!
