Welcome To The Farm! by Jen Davis

Hi there Simple Stories friends! I hope that you are doing well and are finding time to carve some creativity into your days. I've been most recently having fun creating with the Homegrown collection from Simple Stories. It's so darn cute you guys!! I adore the artwork in this collection and really love how in addition to the perhaps "classic" farm color scheme there is pink and teal thrown in as well.

My daughter Zoey has had a friend since she was probably two years old or so and ever since we can remember she's had chickens! There aren't too many farms around us as we are in northern Wisconsin and the soil and weather just don't cooperate...so having friends who live in town that have chickens was (and is!) pretty fun! Especially when Zoey was younger! It was all she could talk about whenever she would go over for a playdate!

I usually use more than a single photo when working on a 12 x 12 layout. It can be kind of challenging to figure out what to do with all that space when using just one photo! I decided to challenge myself though to come up with something for this page. I only have one photo of Zoey and her friend Ruby with one of her chickens so short of running over to their house, I had to make do! I played around with the idea of adding one of the 3 x 4 cards from this collection to the right of my photo but opted instead to use several of the phrase stickers from the cardstock sticker sheet instead. I thought it was an interesting way to fill up that space.

Adding die-cuts to the left of the photo and to the bottom-right of the layout added a bit more filler and added some balance too.

An easy way to fill up the top portion of the layout without making things too busy by adding more embellishments I simply printed my journaling and cut it into strips before adhering it to my patterned paper. Super easy!

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I'd love to see some of your projects using the Homegrown collection so be sure to tag @simplestories_ when you're sharing on Instagram or Facebook!
