Hello, Simple Stories friends! Jana Eubank here. There are some collections that instantly transport you back in time, and the Simple Stories Totally 80s collection definitely does that for me! As soon as I saw the bright hot pink, yellow, teal, and black color palette, I was flooded with memories of growing up in the 1980s. For this layout, I gathered three photos of myself from different stages of the decade and created a page that celebrates all of the fun, quirky, and unforgettable things that made the 80s so memorable.
One of my favorite parts of this layout is the energetic background. The collection is filled with geometric shapes, hearts, stars, and squiggly lines, so I wanted to make those elements a big part of the design. I layered several of the shapes across the top of the page to create a playful, retro feel that reminds me of the graphics you would see on clothing, notebooks, and TV shows back then. The bold patterns and bright colors immediately set the tone and make the page feel fun and full of personality.
The three photos tell the story of my journey through the decade, from childhood into my teenage years. I matted each photo with colorful layers to help them stand out against the busy background and arranged them across the page to create a visual timeline. I also included journaling strips above and below the photos so I could record some of my favorite memories from those years. Looking back through old photos always brings back so many little details that I don't want to forget.
Of course, I couldn't resist adding all of the iconic 80s embellishments! The brick phone, ghetto blaster, ring pop, Swatch watch, and Aqua Net hairspray can instantly bring back memories for anyone who lived through the decade. I had so much fun tucking these pieces around the photos and title. Combined with the stars, hearts, and geometric accents, they help tell the story and capture the larger-than-life style of the era.
To finish the page, I created a bold title using Color Vibe Foam Alphabet Letter Stickers in Pink and playful embellishments. The phrase "The 80's Jana" felt like the perfect way to sum up the layout and embrace the over-the-top spirit of the decade. The bright colors and layered details draw your eye right to the center of the page and tie all of the elements together.
Creating this layout was such a fun trip down memory lane. I love how the Totally 80s collection combines nostalgic icons, vibrant colors, and playful patterns to celebrate a decade that was anything but boring. Every time I look at this page, I'm reminded of the music, fashion, friendships, and experiences that made the 80s such a special time in my life.
