Hello Simple Stories friends! It’s Jen today with a fun, outdoorsy project using the Trail Mix Collection. One of my favorite things about memory keeping is being able to revisit all of the special moments my family has shared throughout the years. As my kids grew and began their adult lives, I thought I would have less to scrapbook, but that has not been the case and today’s layout proves just that.
Our son Caleb is studying to be a biologist and has spent the summer working on the I-90 Wildlife Crossing, which is located in the Snoqualmie Pass region of Washington State. The overpass was designed to provide a safe passage for animals, allowing them to traverse the busy Interstate 90 without the risk of collisions with vehicles. The crossing helps protect various species, including deer, elk, bears, and even smaller animals like amphibians. Naturally, I turned to the Trail Mix Collection to document his amazing experience.
For this project, I began by creating the background using inks and the 6X8 Stencil - Pine Branch. First, I used the smushing method to apply yellow and green inks to mixed media paper. Next, I used the same inks with the stencil to create a background pattern on the page. While most of the pattern is covered with photos and embellishments, it is still a main player on the project.
Once the background was dry, I began adding the photos that are backed with paper from the 6 x 8 Pad. Each photo is backed with foam tape in various thicknesses, so they have a staggered look.
For the main photo of Caleb, I wrapped twine around one side of the picture before adding embellishments. I then continued adding die cuts, stickers, and chipboard to the remaining pictures.
To create the title, I pulled the “great outdoors” sentiment from the Simple Pages Page Pieces and placed the words above and below the photos. I followed that with hand-written journaling to document this special story.
To complete the layout, I added a torn strip of washi tape and sticker below the title as well as enamel dots throughout. I am so proud of Caleb and am happy to have this special experience documented.
Thank you for stopping by today! The Simple Stories Trail Mix Collection offers just what you need to document all of your outdoor adventures, and I cannot wait to continue to document mine.
