BLOG POST: Sweet Treat Bags for a Spooky Halloween with Spooky Things Collection
Hello everyone! Celes here @guiademanualidades—so happy to be back with a cute-and-spooky idea for Halloween! Today I’m sharing Sweet Treats Packs for a Spooky Halloween, created with the charming Spooky Things collection. The paper bags themselves are pre-made, store-bought bags—we’ll focus entirely on decorating them with happy pastels, pops of orange and lime, layered rosettes, and big bows. These quick, customizable toppers turn simple bags into party-ready favors in minutes—perfect for class parties, trick-or-treat tables, or little “boo baskets” for friends and neighbors. Ready to brew up some fun? Let’s dive in!
The playful ghosts, candy pieces, and star-sprinkled patterns in Spooky Things were exactly what I wanted—sweet, a little spooky, and super graphic. Because the bags are store-bought, I focused on mix-and-match toppers: layered paper rosettes in graduating sizes (think lilac, mint, black with pops of orange and lime), scalloped side tabs, and oversized bows that sit right over the fold. Each focal point stacks ephemera and stickers—witch hats, webs, candies, and word art like Hocus Pocus, eeek!, and Brewing up some fun—with foam adhesive for extra dimension. I finished with die-cut stars and enamel dots for that confetti sparkle (plus a touch of stitching for texture). It’s an easy formula to repeat across colors and sentiments, turning plain bags into mini celebrations in minutes.
Paper rosettes:
You’ll need two rosette sizes, so pick two different patterned papers from the Spooky Things collection—one for each size. Make sure the colors coordinate with your pre-made paper bags (e.g., pastel lilac/mint with kraft bags, or black/orange with white bags).
Strips you need
Rosette 1 (larger): 1 strip 1¾" × 12”, 1 strip 1¾" × 6"
Rosette 2 (smaller,): 1 strip 1¼" × 12”, 1 strip 1¼" × 6"
Each rosette is made with two strips. Score all strips. Place each strip with the width at the top (the 12" or 6" side). Score every ¼" across the entire length of each strip. Accordion-fold along the score lines (mountain/valley), burnishing the folds. Adhere the 12" strip to the 6" strip to create one long strip; then glue the ends together to form a ring. Now, let’s shape the rosette. Push the ring inward to flatten into a rosette.
Bag panel:
For each bag, cut one panel measuring 4¾" high × 7" wide, then score along the width at 3", 3½", and 4". You may need to tweak these to fit your own bags.
My bag size is 24 cm × 7 cm × 12 cm (height × depth × width), which converts to 9.45" × 2.76" × 4.72". If your bags differ, adjust the panel width and score positions so the fold wraps neatly over the top edge without bulking.
Die-cut a scalloped border from Color Vibe cardstock (Simple Stories) and trim it to match the panel height (4¾"). Adhere the scallop along the lower edge of the décor panel, then add a simple line of stitching (machine or hand) to highlight the scallops—it's a small touch that adds so much texture. Once your treats are inside the bag, place the panel over the top edge and run a short stitch line across the topper to close it securely. (No sewing machine? Use mini staples or a thin bead of strong adhesive as an alternative.)
With the bags stitched closed, it’s time to dress up the rosettes. I layered pieces from the Bits & Pieces Ephemera pack, plus foam stickers, chipboard stickers, enamel dots, and decorative brads from the Spooky Things collection. Mix flat and dimensional elements for a stacked look: start with a sentiment or icon in the center, tuck small ephemera behind, then finish with a few enamel dots and a brad for sparkle and texture. Tip: keep colors echoing your bag and panel so everything feels coordinated.
I hope you enjoyed this idea and that it sparks lots of inspiration! You can easily adapt the same concept to decorate paper straws, cupcake toppers, napkin rings, and any other Halloween party table elements you’re using. Have fun mixing patterns and textures—and I’ll see you next time! — Celes
