The Simple Stories Sweet Summertime collection was the perfect match for highlighting this happy family memory. Hi friends! I'm Jana Eubank. For this layout, I leaned into the playful energy of summer and built a page with a bright sunshine-y feel.
The top portion of the page really lets the “Play Outside” patterned paper shine. One of the things that makes this paper so fun is the scattered circle design filled with playful summertime imagery and phrases.
To add extra dimension and a little more personality, I punched additional circles from the same patterned paper and layered them over similar printed circles. Mounting many of those circles on a scalloped white circle layer gives them extra personality. It is a simple technique, but it creates a lot of interesting detail to this part of the page.
That playful circle pattern also helps balance the overall design. Because the circles are scattered across the entire upper half of the layout, they create a light, airy feeling that contrasts beautifully with the more grounded design in the lower section.
In the lower portion of the page, the focus shifts to a single special photograph. I framed the photo with layers of colorful paper, including Pool Color Vibe cardstock and a sunny yellow polkadot from the 6x8 paper pad. Beside the photo, a beach scene brings the layout to life. The beach chair, umbrella, beach ball, and clouds (all from the Page Pieces) create the feeling of a warm summer afternoon.
The title is another standout with its colorful design! The large “Sun-Kissed” phrase (also from the Page Pieces) stretches across the bottom of the photo and anchors the entire composition. Its bold scale helps connect the photo cluster with the beach scene, while the smaller “memories” adds a casual finishing touch.
This layout captures exactly what makes the Sweet Summertime collection so delightful—bright color, playful icons, and an unmistakable sense of summer fun. By combining the whimsical circle-filled background with layered embellishments and one treasured photo, you can create a page that feels energetic and fun. I hope you'll give it a try!
