Summer Fun!

Summer Fun!

Rebecca Moore @preciouspagespapercraft here with you today sharing my first layout created with the Summer Snapshots collection. The weather has been totally rubbish in the UK lately with gale-force winds and constant rain, so I love that this collection provided me with a bit of summer escapism!

When I first received this collection and flipped through it all, my eye was immediately drawn to the 'Take the Shot' paper with all the polaroid frames. I loved all the bright colours in the centre of the frames and an idea already started forming in my head!

To begin, I cut 7 of the frames and arranged them in a tight cluster in the centre of a sheet of white cardstock, placing them at angles and layering them. I then replaced the centre of one of the frames with my photo. Because of the angle my little one is standing at, I felt like the photo was better positioned over on the right of the page.

Underneath the colourful polaroids, I added my title. I've used the word 'Summer' from the 6x12 Chipboard because I loved how the colours matched the centre of the frames! Just south of this, I also added a chipboard arrow which reads 'Snapshots'.

Have you seen the new 'Big Bits & Pieces' in the Simple Stories collections yet? They are fabulous - like the Page Pieces... only bigger! I selected two pieces - the 'Summer Fun' flags, and the parasol and deckchair, and placed one either side of my polaroid frames to start off my embellishing. I always find it easier to start my clusters with bigger items, and then I can slot in and layer up smaller pieces around them.

To these clusters I added some die cuts from the Bits & Pieces pack and some of the Cardstock Stickers. I like to raise my smaller embellishments up on foam pads to introduce some dimension to my layouts. I also couldn't resist the celebration banner from the Journal Bits & Pieces as it provided the perfect place to add a tiny bit of journalling!

Once I was finished embellishing with the larger pieces, I turned my attention, as I always do, to the smaller items in the collection. This usually includes the enamel dots and any small stickers or die-cuts. I selected some of the hearts from the Foam Stickers and stuck them tone-on-tone on the polaroid frames. I love how cute these little hearts look! I also reached for my stash of Crystal Nuvo Drops and, as luck would have it, I had the perfect colour-match for each of the polaroid frames! Result! I added 3 dots of Nuvos to the top of each frame, each one smaller than the previous, and I love how this looks.

I felt like the layout needed something around the edges. When I get this feeling, I either add some torn strips of paper to a couple of the edges, doodle a border, or as I've done here, add a patterned paper frame around the whole page. I chose the striped side of the 'Keep it Sunny' paper because it included all the colours from my layout, and I felt like it matched the parasol on the layout well. Because the stripes only ran in one direction, I had to cut 4 separate strips to go around the edge of my page, to make sure I had a block of each colour, all the way around. I think this finishes the layout off really well.

Thanks so much for reading, I hope you like my layout and it gives you some inspiration! Summer Snapshots is a beautiful and colourful collection, and I think you're going to love it as much as I do!

Take care,

Rebecca Moore xx
