Hi crafty friends! Amber Mitchell here on the Simple Stories blog today to share with you some fun coptic books I created using the Simple Vintage: Lemon Twist collection.
Yellow is one of my favorite colors, so right off the bat I knew I was going to love working with this collection! The bright yellow shades and the hints of blue just have such a happy, summertime vibe to them. And I’m not going to lie—the entire time I was working on these books all I could think about was lemonade on a hot summer day!
To create the covers of my coptic books, I used two pieces of medium weight chipboard that measure 3.25 x 4.25 inch. I wrapped these using the “Happy Thoughts” paper from Lemon Twist and lined each with the “Sweet Life” and “Fresh Squeezed” papers. I then machine stitched along the edges of these for added texture.
To create the signatures, or pages for my books, I used the 3x4 cut apart sheet from the 12x12 Collection Kit. I cut the 3x4 rectangles into six pieces that measured 4x6 inches and then folded them in half down the middle. This created the first (or outer) pages of my signatures. To fill my six signatures, I took 4x6 inch pieces of paper that I cut from Simple Vintage: Lemon Twist and folded them in half. I added three of these to each signature; this gives each signature 16 pages, for a total of 96 pages all together!
I used my We R Memory Keepers Crop-a-Dile to add some small holes to the left-hand side of my covers (these holes measure half an inch part). I then used an awl to add corresponding holes to my signatures and stacked the entire book in the order I wanted it to be in.
I used white embroidery thread and a mix of charms from my stash to stitch my books together. If you’re new to coptic book binding, there are plenty of tutorials and how-tos available online. They might seem intimidating at first but they’re quite easy and fun to make once you get the technique down!
To embellish the covers of my books, I used some paper flowers that I added decorative brads to the center of. I folded up the petals to give them more texture and then added them to the left-hand side of my books. I used some chipboard stickers as titles for my books and finished off the covers with some heart-shaped stickers.
I am so obsessed with these little yellow books! They have so much character and happiness stitched into them. Thanks so much for stopping by my post today! I’ll see you next time with another fun project!
