Spooky Things Handmade Halloween Cards

Spooky Things Handmade Halloween Cards

For my latest design team project with Simple Stories, I had so much fun creating a set of 10 handmade Halloween cards using the Spooky Things collection. This collection is full of bold patterns, playful icons, and festive sayings that make it perfect for whipping up cards to celebrate spooky season. Let’s take a closer look at each of the cards!

 Card 1: Eeek!

This card sets the tone with a bold “EEEKK!” sentiment front and center from the Sentiment Bits and Pieces. I love the stars on this piece! I tucked in bats, a skull, and a large star accent for a playful pop. The orange panel from one of the 4x4 Element paper cut-aparts makes the black and white layers really stand out, and I finished it off with a sweet tag from the Tag Elements paper layered behind with a star brad from the Decorative Brads, and a bow of black-and-white twine on top.

 Card 2: Boo Ghost

For this one, I couldn’t resist using the adorable ghost die cut from the Bits and Pieces as the focal point. I placed him over a large black polka-dot tag and surrounded him with  Chipboard Sticker stars, a crescent moon, and  I love the spiderweb accents found on the library card from the Journal Bits and Pieces. The “Boo!” sentiment is layered with a little Cardstock Sticker word sticker beneath that reads “Happy Haunting!”—a perfect mix of cute and spooky.

 Card 3: Hocus Pocus

The green “Hocus Pocus!” sentiment from one of the 3x4 Element cut-apart cards really shines on this playful card. I added layered banners and strips of patterned paper from the 6x8 Paper pad in stripes and dots for lots of texture. A witch’s hat, bat, and flower embellishments from various embellishments from the collection complete the look, making this card whimsical and fun. Don't forget to add those beautiful Enamel Dots to the center of your flowers!

  Card 4: Trick or Treat

This card uses the bright multicolored “Trick or Treat” phrase from the Sentiment Bits as the main focus. I framed it with a black polka dot piece from the Journal Elements, tucked in front of an orange doily for extra flair, and added a striped bat, from the Cardstock Stickers, at the top for balance. A little lollipop and “spooky and sweet” sentiment stickers finish it off with a candy vibe.

 Card 5: Hey Boo!

I love the floral and stripe mix on this one. I layered the cheerful “hey boo!” 3x4 Element cut apart, with a flower-filled background, accented with  Foam Sticker stars and a Chipboard Sticker pumpkin at the bottom. A purple tag peeks from behind, and the striped border really ties all the colors together. Love using the 6x8 Paper Pad on my cards for all the great patterns!

Card 6: Ghouls Just Wanna Have Fun

This fun card features the playful phrase “Ghouls Just Wanna Have Fun!”  from the Foam Sticker, in the center of a circle. I framed it with an orange doily and surrounded it with a haunted house, ghost, and spiderweb from the Bits and Pieces and Chipboard Stickers.  Pops of purple and green in the pretty flowers and Spiderweb 6x8 pattern paper add even more Halloween cheer.

  Card 7: Happy Halloween

This one keeps it bold and graphic with a big “Happy Halloween” sentiment in colorful block letters. This is from the 2x2/ 4x4 Element paper. I love using these big, bold pieces for card sentiments. I layered it over polka-dot and spooky sky 6x8  pattern papers and tucked in a tag, from the Journal Bits and Pieces, a vintage-style witch cut-apart and floral cluster. A small dangling spider, hanging from some baker's twine, finishes the look.

  Card 8: Spooky Pumpkins

This was such a fun one to make! I created three little tags across the top, each holding a grinning jack-o-lantern face. These are all from the Bits and Pieces. I added stars for accents and grounded the design with the word “Spooky”, from the Chipboard Stickers, spelled out in large, colorful letters across the bottom. Notice the 2 cute bold Decorative Brads in the centers of the "o's" - this is a great way to add some added dimension!

  Card 9: Boo Pennant

This card is playful with its big “Boo” pennant flag, from the Journal Bits and Pieces, layered across the front. I tucked in a smiling ghost from the Chipboard Stickers, a jack-o-lantern, and florals from the Bits and Pieces, to make a festive cluster. A soft polka-dot background made with Warm White Color Vibe cardstock and a tied twine bow adds just the right amount of texture.

  Card 10: Happy Halloween

For my final card, I used the beautiful script “Happy Halloween!” sticker from the Cardstock Stickers. Behind it, I layered florals, a ghost,  and a spiderweb, from the various die-cut packs, for a playful mix. The striped and floral papers from the 6x8 Paper Pad bring in so much fun pattern play to wrap up the collection.

Thank you so much for stopping by the blog today! I had such a wonderful time creating these 10 festive cards with the Spooky Things collection from Simple Stories. I hope they inspired you to dive into your stash and create some spooky-cute handmade cards of your own this Halloween season.
