Hello, Simple Stories friends! It’s Jen today with another fun layout using the Crafty Things collection.
Never will I ever get used to the fact that I am a part of the Simple Stories Design Team. There are so many creatives I have admired for years that I now get to work with, and it is amazing!! When you’ve dreamed of something for so long, and not thought it a possibility, finally achieving your goal can still feel incredulous. That being said, let’s take a look at my project documenting this year’s term.
This layout began with a bit of experimentation using glitter, embossing powder, ink, and matte glaze on white mixed media paper. I loved the giant paint brush, which I fussy cut, and wanted to use it on my project in a way that incorporated my love of mixed media.
To begin, I mixed all the glaze, embossing powder, glitter, and ink together until I was happy with the color and consistency. Next, I spread it onto the mixed media paper as well as along the bottom edge of the paint brush. I finished by splattering a darker color ink onto the page to give it more depth. Once dry, I used foam tape to attach the paint brush to the top of the page to (hopefully) give the appearance of painting on the layout. I then added washi tape along the top border and several embellishments on the paint brush.
When completing the bottom half of the layout, I started by adding strips of patterned paper that were cut on an angle. The photos were next and I backed them with a cute floral print from the 6 x 8 patterned paper pad before adhering them to the page.
Embellishments are my favorite, and I used fussy-cut florals, Floral Bits, Bits & Pieces, stickers, and chipboard pieces that I tucked behind the strips of patterned papers.
The journaling was typed using my manual typewriter and placed amongst the other embellishments. Of course, once I had everything in place I noticed a typo, so I added the missing word to a sticker, placed it where the word should have been, and punched an arrow from a scrap of patterned paper to indicate where it should be.
To complete the project, I tucked decorative brads and glitter enamel dots throughout.
Here is one last look at the finished layout. I’m loving how this one turned out because it shows my love of mixed media and my even greater love of being on the Simple Stories Team!
Thank you so much for visiting today, and I hope you have been inspired to create!
