Simple Vintage Essentials Color Palette Monochromatic Journals!

Simple Vintage Essentials Color Palette Monochromatic Journals!
Hello crafty friends! Amber Mitchell here on the Simple Stories blog today to share with you a set of monochromatic journals I created using the new Simple Vintage Essentials Color Palette collection.

This collection includes a few different packs of paper and I tried to include them all in this project. I used sheets of patterned paper from the 12 x 12 Collection Kit to create the covers for the journals. I love the checkered pattern on all of these papers. It just screams spring to me, and, since the weather in California is warming up, I'm all about that right now! To create some smaller, interactive pages, I used the 12 x 12 Designer Tags Kit. I trimmed down pairs of tags in coordinating colors for each journal. I also used coordinating pages from the 6 x 8 Paper Pad to create pockets that I added to the centers of each journal.

To create the bulk of the pages for these journals, I used bullet dot paper from my stash. I love keeping this type of paper on hand, and it worked perfectly for this type of project! I used three sheets and folded them in half to create 6 pages per journal.

The cover of my journals measures 8 x 8 inches. I created the journaling pages using bullet dot paper that I trimmed down to 7 7/8 x 7 ¾ inches. I folded these in half along the 7 ¾ inch side. I added these sheets to the inside of the journal and then took the pair of tags I mentioned earlier and wrapped them around the paper, so that there would be one tag at the start of the journal and one at the end of it.

I created the center pocket by taking a 6 x 8 inch sheet of paper and scoring it at the following measurements:
      - On the 8-inch side, I scored at ¾ inch on both ends.
      - On the 6-inch side, I scored at 2.5 inches.
Next, I trimmed off the ¾ inch tabs on the 3.5-inch side, and then used the tabs I scored on the 2.5-inch side to adhere the pocket together (don't do this step until you stitch the pocket into the journal).

To bind the journal together, I used white embroidery thread, a large needle, and a saddle stitch.

I repeated this process until I had four monochromatic journals in blue, pink, green, and yellow.

Next, I created a box to store the journals in. To create this box, I used a sheet of paper that measured 11.75 x 6.75 inches.
      - On the 11.75 inch side, I scored at 1.75 and 10 inches.
      - On the 6.75 inch side, I scored at 2.5 and 4.25 inches.
After folding and creasing along these score lines, I cut the two squares in the middle of this template into tabs and used those to adhere the box together.

With the journals and box created, I moved onto embellishing. I used a combination of the 6 x 12 Chipboard Stickers, the Bits & Pieces, the Floral and Birds Bits & Pieces, and the Foam Sticker Titles, to create clusters on the covers of each journal. I finished off these clusters with some butterflies from the Butterfly Bits & Pieces pack.

For extra fun, I added some white pompom trim around the edges of the storage box.

This project was so fun to make and I love that this collection has so many different color options to choose from! Thanks so much for stopping by my post today!
