Seas the Day! by Emilie Chamel

Seas the Day! by Emilie Chamel
Hello friends! Emilie here with a brand-new layout created using the breathtaking VINTAGE SEAS collection. It is such an amazing collection to document your seaside days out or holidays. Let’s dive-in!

I was so excited to get to use this collection! I absolutely love the colour combination of navy, red, white and teal and on top of that, I had the perfect photograph. We often go for days out to our local beach and had just recently been. As it happened, Sophia had been wearing a partly red dress with a blue jean jacket and had been proud to pose next to her sandcastle.

My first step is always to decide which overall layout design I will go with. There are so many round elements to this collection (compass, wheels, buoys) that it was only fitting to create a circular design. It’s almost like a wreath but not quite as there is a lot of white space between the elements.

Once I was happy with my design choice, I chose my backing paper. After reviewing all my options, I settled on the map side of the SAIL AWAY sheet. It was the perfect match as it created amazing contrast with the SHORELINE paper from the SIMPLE BASICS KIT. The navy blue as the centre of my circle also reenforced the “seaside” theme of my layout.

I cut out a circle at the centre of the SHORELINE sheet and sewed around it with red thread three times to create lots of texture and reenforce the round design. I used the 6x8 paper pad to back my photograph. I love that with the paper pad I don’t have to cut into a full 12x12 sheet, allowing me to preserve these for future layout. I then distressed the edges and mounted it in the bottom right corner of my layout.

Now it is time to decorate the layout and make it come to life. Starting with the bigger embellishments ensure that we don’t go overboard and that we don’t cover up smaller elements as these will be added later. The NAUTICAL BITS AND PIECES have large colourful seaweed elements which were perfect to create my visual triangle on the layout. I added one above and one below my photograph as well as another one on the left hadn’t side of my page. Finding your visual triangle is a great way to find where the rest of your elements will then go.

I then dived through all the BITS AND PIECES, FOAM STICKERS, DECORATIVE BRADS, CHIPBAORD CLUSTERS and SIMPLE PAGES PAGE PIECES. I chose small elements from each of these packs to decorate around my circle and create small cluster here and there. Crabs, stars, compasses… all small nautical elements could find a place around my design.

The last touch to my layout was a title with the help of the SIMPLE PAGES PAGE PIECES. The bold title was perfect to create an anchor on my page. A few ENAMEL DOTS around the page for a finishing touch and my layout was finished. What do you think? I absolutely love it!
Have you got the VINTAGE SEAS collection on your must have list? You defiantly should! I really hope that you check it out at your local scrapbooking store!
Lots of love,
Emilie xxx
