Hi, friends! Andrea here and I’m so excited to share a very special project that brings back some of my favorite travel memories. This mini album documents our trip to Luxor, Egypt, back in 2015—a trip that holds a special place in my heart. At the time, my husband and I were living in the Middle East, and Luxor was our very first international adventure as a couple. We spent an incredible week exploring ancient temples and soaking up the sun at a beautiful resort.
The base of the album is handmade using chipboard and covered with white cardstock. It measures 8½” x 6½” x 2¾” and is designed to sit inside a custom airplane-shaped stand—because every great trip deserves a fun departure! I used two adhesive ring binding systems (one on each side) to allow for more space and layout options. The patterned papers and embellishments come from the Happy Travels collection by Simple Stories, which I absolutely loved working with. The bright, map-themed paper strips on the cover were stitched in a radiating design, creating a bold and colorful focal point. I finished it off with layered stickers, foam pieces, and enamel dots to add dimension and personality.
Inside, I played with a variety of interactive elements—flip-outs, flip-ups, journaling cards, and pockets—to make the album feel as fun and dynamic as the trip itself. The pages are all different sizes and are filled with photos, journaling bits, and embellishments like brads, stickers, and ephemera from the same collection. Every spread tells part of our story, whether it’s walking through ancient ruins or simply enjoying a peaceful moment by the water.
One of my favorite spreads includes a 4x4 card of a globe with the phrase: “Life is short, and the world is wide. Let’s get exploring and making memories!” That sentiment really captures how this trip felt to us—it was our first chance to see the world together, and it was the beginning of many more adventures to come.
If you’ve ever wanted to document your travels in a unique and joyful way, I hope this mini album gives you a bit of inspiration. If you use the Happy Travels collection or try out a similar album structure, I’d love to see what you make! I always enjoy seeing your creations.
Thanks so much for reading and traveling back in time with me.
Love,
Andrea
