My Story
Can anyone relate to the fact that the older we get, the faster time seems to speed by? I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately - wondering where on earth the time has gone. It seems like only yesterday my husband and I were just starting out as a married couple and raising our young family; yet in the blink of an eye, our three kids grew up, moved out, and began their adult lives. I am so glad that I began scrapbooking and documenting our lives because we have so many wonderful memories to look back on. However, I have so many more stories to document- beginning with the one I am sharing today.
I am not sure how it is possible, but I love every new Simple Stories collection more than the previous, and My Story is no exception. There are so many stories I want to record with this collection, but I decided to begin with one about my husband and I and the next chapter in our lives.
For this 12x12 layout, I began building the background by using the 6x8 Stencil Floral Vines with Cloud Whip Modeling Paste on mixed media paper. Once the paste was dry, I used the smooshing method to add Abandoned Coral Distress Oxide Ink over the stenciled area, which peeks out from behind the patterned papers.
Next, I selected three of my favorite patterned papers, tore them into strips, and adhered them to the background. I then fussy cut a bookshelf from the Share Your Story patterned paper and placed it on top of the torn strips.
The photos I selected hold a special meaning to my husband and me. The top picture is actually a color print that we had done in the local mall before when we were first dating in 1998. That picture has been on our refrigerator (no matter where we have lived) for 25 years! I ended up scanning it and printing it in black and white so it would match the collection better. After printing the photos, I framed them with a Chipboard Frame that I turned sideways so they would fit.
Next, I began embellishing the layout using Bits & Pieces, Floral Bits & Pieces, and the Sticker Book. I seriously love the embellishments from this collection and could have used all of them if there was room!
To create the title, I used a Foam Sticker with phrase stickers from the collection kit. I add these quite often to projects to give more substance to the title. Below that I used a book die cut from the Simple Pages Page Pieces to anchor everything.
Below the photo, I added hand-written journaling to document the story behind the photos. I love seeing how much we both have changed in the past 25 years!
Thank you so much for stopping by today, and I hope you’ve been inspired to create! The My Story collection is truly lovely and can be used to document so many special moments and memories, and I cannot wait to create with it again.
