As a scrapbooker, I’m always looking for ways to include as many photos as possible while still keeping the layout visually balanced. One of my favorite things about working with sketches is finding creative opportunities to add extra photos. For this layout, I used a sketch with a circular border design and swapped out four of the half circles along the outer edge for photos instead. I was intentional with my photo choices, selecting images where the main subjects were closer to the edge so I could crop them into the circles without losing important details.

To add contrast and definition, I used black embroidery thread to hand stitch a border around the entire layout. I love how the bold black stitching really helps the bright, playful colors in this collection stand out. I also kept one open 4x6 area to house both my title and journaling, creating a strong focal point on the page. The title was built using phrases from the foam stickers, and I printed my journaling directly onto a cut-apart from the 12x12 paper pack.

To finish things off, I added the wonky scallop border pieces from the foam stickers around the outer circle borders, which created natural spots for embellishing. I tucked in phrases, hearts, and small accents to bring in more pops of color and subtle touches of black throughout the design.

If you take a closer look at the photos and journaling, you’ll see that this layout is actually documenting a Field Day event at an elementary school. It’s a great reminder of just how versatile the Color Me Happy collection is—it can easily be stretched to fit a wide range of bright, fun, everyday moments.
