Hello Simple Stories friends! Gloria here today with a fun layout documenting our 4th of July celebration in the U.S. this year. For this layout, I’m using the beautiful Simple Vintage Land of the Free collection. I absolutely love how this collection has that vintage, nostalgic feel while still looking fresh and modern. It was so much fun to use all those classic reds, whites, and blues to document these special memories with my family!
I started my layout by choosing three patterned papers: the red striped paper, the blue diagonal striped paper, and the adorable cherry patterned paper. I used the red striped paper as my background and cut the cherry paper to approximately 6 x 12 inches. I then cut two 1 x 12-inch strips from the blue diagonal striped paper and adhered them along the top and bottom edges of the cherry paper. I added some machine stitching along these borders for a little extra texture and detail.
Next, I backed my four 3 x 4-inch photos with red patterned paper and placed them in a row right across the middle of my layout. I love using several smaller photos like this because they allow me to tell more of the story while still leaving plenty of room for all those beautiful embellishments!
Before moving on to my larger embellishment clusters, I tucked a few little tags along the areas where my patterned-paper strips meet. I love how these small details help connect all the different layers and add another fun element to the design.
Then it was time for my favorite part—embellishing! I created three main clusters, beginning with the largest one at the top right of my photos. I layered three large fireworks together with an American flag, stars, and my “Land That I Love” title. I love how this cluster immediately draws your eye and really captures that festive Fourth of July feeling.
For my second cluster, I moved down to the bottom left of my photos, where I added a small label to hold my journaling. Around it, I layered some of the fun food and drink icons from the collection. They were perfect for representing all the yummy things we enjoyed while celebrating together that day!
Finally, I created my third cluster toward the upper left side of the layout using more fireworks, a cute little cupcake, and the “Stars + Stripes” subtitle. I finished everything off by scattering a few stars around the page. I love how those little stars help carry your eye around the layout while adding to that fun, celebratory feeling of fireworks, family, and the Fourth of July.
