The holidays are upon us and I am so excited to celebrate with family (in person) this year. One activity I enjoy most this time of year is baking, and my homemade caramel-apple pie is expected at every Thanksgiving gathering. The rich, autumnal hues of the new Simple Stories Hearth & Home Collection were perfect for documenting this family favorite, and I loved creating the project I’m sharing today.
Let’s take a look at the 12 x 12 layout.
If you know anything about me by now, you know I love using the 6 x 6 stencils on my projects, and this one is not exception. To begin, I dipped the stencil in watered down distress oxide ink and placed it on the white cardstock. After doing this several times, I then splattered the same ink on the page.
While the images are not as crisp as they would be if I had blended ink over the stencil, you can still make out the shape of the houses when you look closely. Using the stencil this way allowed me to create a more muted background with the ink.
Once the stenciled ink was dry, I machine-stitched several strips of patterned paper onto the cardstock that were a ½ inch wide by 6 inches long. For the final strip, I placed washi tape onto white cardstock and cut it to match the others, which I then stitched in place. By adhering the tape to the cardstock, I was able to get the same effect as the patterned paper while still using the adorable washi.
The layout came together quickly at this point. After backing my photo with patterned paper and a cut away journaling tag, I adhered atop the paper strips with foam squares. Just as every Simple Stories collection, Hearth & Home has so many adorable embellishments. As you can see, I used a bit of everything on the layout.
I decided to keep the journaling minimal by using a simple tag along the bottom to document the type of pie I made and the date.
This project is loaded with embellishments, yet still feels minimal with the white space of the background. I love the effect!
Thank you for stopping by today! Be sure to grab this delightful collection to document your special stories. I know I will certainly be creating much more with this one!
