Happy Holidays, friends! It’s Ali — @funadventureswithali — popping in today with a frosty, flannel-filled layout using the charming Simple Vintage Flannel Season collection from Simple Stories. This collection feels like being wrapped in a cozy blanket with a mug of hot cocoa… so naturally, I had to craft something snowy and sweet!
Jodi and I decided to meet up at the Brookfield Corners for a little festive photo adventure. The twinkling lights, the chilly air, and all the holiday décor made it the perfect backdrop for snapping a few magical winter photos. After we wrapped up our mini photoshoot, we wandered over for a cozy drink — and that’s when I spotted it: the cutest marshmallow snowman drink you ever saw. Seriously, how was I supposed to say no to a marshmallow snowman just floating there, smiling at me?
For the layout itself, I pulled out nine different patterned papers from the collection — each one cozier than the next. I cut them into two-inch strips in varying lengths and layered them like a stack of winter scarves. To give them a little extra charm, I stitched a delicate border along the right side of each strip using white DMC thread. I love how the stitching adds that handmade, snuggly-sweater sort of feel.
Now, let’s talk about the frames. Ohhh, the chipboard frames from Simple Stories… they’re basically my kryptonite. I had so much fun picking out two perfectly whimsical frames for my snowman drink photos. Once I adhered the pictures inside, I added foam tape behind the frames to pop them off the page — and then layered one slightly over the other to give the whole layout a cozy, stacked, dimensional look. It feels like the photos are peeking out from a little winter window scene.
For the title, I couldn’t resist the Just Chillin’ ephemera piece. I mean — snowman photos? Chillin’? It was destiny. I tucked a few embellishments around the frames, added more foam tape behind the holly sprig (because dimension is life), and sprinkled enamel dots on the snowflakes and title for that magical, snowy sparkle.
Every detail came together to create this playful, whimsical winter layout — a little chilly, a little cozy, and a whole lot of holiday joy.
