Hi friends! Andrea Lake here today sharing a new 12x12 layout created with the Frightful Fun collection from Simple Stories. I absolutely love Halloween collections, especially when they have that perfect mix of spooky and cute, and this one was so much fun to work with! I used this adorable photo of my niece from last Halloween as the focal point. Her little Wednesday Addams costume and that big smile definitely deserved their own page!
I wanted to play with the patterned papers and create a background that had lots of personality without taking attention away from the photo. I fussy cut around the scalloped edges of the ghost paper, allowing the orange patterned paper underneath to peek through and create a fun border around the entire layout. I then layered another patterned paper in the center and added orange zigzag machine stitching around the edges. I love how that small stitched detail adds texture and another pop of Halloween color to the page.
From there, it was all about the embellishments! I used a combination of Foam Stickers, Cardstock Stickers, and Bits & Pieces to build clusters around the photo. The oversized ghosts, bats, florals, and little Halloween icons were perfect for creating movement around the page. I also layered several pieces with foam adhesive to add the dimension I love so much. The large “BOO” became the main title, and I tucked additional phrases and embellishments around it to create one larger cluster in the bottom corner of the photo.
I also added a journaling spot on the opposite side of the photo to help balance the design and, most importantly, document the memory behind it. I love when a collection gives me plenty of playful elements to decorate with while still leaving room for the photo and story to be the stars of the page. Frightful Fun was absolutely perfect for this sweet Halloween memory—and I think those little ghosts might be my favorite part!
