Handmade Cards with Evergreen Memories
Hello, crafty friends! There’s something special about adding a handmade touch to Christmas gifts, and the Evergreen Memories collection by Simple Stories was the perfect inspiration for creating a set of festive cards. With its beautiful holiday patterns and coordinating colors, I wanted to explore a patchwork-inspired design that would bring different prints together in a playful and cohesive way.
To create the backgrounds, I cut strips of patterned paper and arranged them side by side, mixing horizontal, vertical, and diagonal directions. This simple technique creates a patchwork effect and is a wonderful way to combine several favorite prints in one project. Once the backgrounds were ready, I built up the designs using layering, starting with larger focal elements and adding smaller pieces around them to create little embellishment clusters.
I used Bits & Pieces to bring the compositions together and added decorative brads for extra dimension and detail. For the card formats, I experimented with two options: a flat postcard-style card, with space to write a message on the back, and a traditional folded card that opens to reveal a personal note inside. Both designs measure 6x4 inches, a practical size that makes great use of your 12x12 papers.
Handmade cards are a lovely way to make holiday gifting feel more personal. Tucked into a wrapped present or sent with a heartfelt message, they become little keepsakes that carry more than just a greeting. I hope these designs inspire you to gather your favorite papers, try a patchwork background, and add a handmade touch to your Christmas celebrations!
