Gather Together! by Jen McMurtrey

Hello friends! It’s Jen today sharing a project created with the stunning new Simple Vintage Farmhouse Garden collection. The papers and embellishments are everything I have come to know and love about Simple Stories . . . they are beautiful and elegant with gorgeous colors and graphics.

When beginning this project, I was particularly drawn to the bandana patterned paper and designed the entire layout around it.

Using a razor and a ruler to ensure straight lines, I cut the inner square from the center of the page as well as the outer edge before adhering it another brightly colored patterned paper. My intention was to use the cut-out portion as a pocket of sorts to tuck embellishments.

With the patterned papers in place, I began embellishing the layout. First, I added a frame atop my photo at an angle (I did this because it is smaller than the picture). When creating layouts, it isn’t necessary to keep everything straight and you can use frames that don’t fit on the photo.

While it is not clearly visible, I used molding paste with the Chicken Wire 6 x 6 Stencil to create a matte for my photo prior to adding it to the layout.

Next, I went to work with the embellishments and used a bit of everything – chipboard stickers, stickers, die cuts, and brads. I purposely used a lot to and love the result.

One trick I have learned when layering die cuts and stickers is to adhere the stickers to cardstock and fussy cut them before using them. This will make the sticker thicker and stronger and allow you to layer them with other elements. Here, I used the green leaf sticker, but only after I had given it a cardstock backing.

Last, I used the Together chipboard sticker to create the title, which I placed directly below the photo. Beneath the title, I added a sticker sentiment from the sticker book.

This Simple Vintage Farmhouse Garden collection is absolutely beautiful, and I am looking forward to using it on more projects in the very near future.

Thank you for stopping by today and I hope you’ve been inspired to create!
