Hey scrappy friends!
Fall crafting is officially here, and what better way to celebrate than with a page full of pumpkins? Today I’m sharing a colorful autumn layout created with the Pumpkins & Plaid collection. I absolutely love all the little icons, florals and warm fall colors in this collection. I decided to make the patterned papers the stars of the page and create my own little pumpkin patch!
For this layout, I started by drawing a simple pumpkin shape that I could use as a template. I then traced and cut out nine pumpkins from a variety of patterned papers. I chose lots of different colors and prints, mixing florals, plaids and smaller patterns to make every pumpkin look a little different.
Once all the pumpkins were cut out, I wanted to give them some extra texture and make the individual sections stand out. I used embroidery thread to create the lines running down each pumpkin. I matched the thread colors to the papers and wrapped the thread around the pumpkins several times. I really love this little detail because it adds dimension without taking away from all those pretty patterns.
Next, I arranged the nine pumpkins in a loose grid across my background. I left some space between them so that each one could stand out on its own and used foam adhesive to create even more dimension.
For my photo, I chose this fun fall picture and matted it with patterned paper before adding it towards the right side of the page, overlapping a few of the pumpkins. The colors in the photo worked so well with the collection and made it the perfect memory to document on this page.
Then it was time for the best part — embellishing! I went through the different embellishment packs and picked out some adorable hedgehogs, leaves, hearts and other little fall details. I added them directly onto the pumpkins, keeping the embellishing fairly simple since there was already so much color and pattern going on. Those tiny hedgehogs were way too cute not to use more than once!
I also added some leaves to a few of the pumpkins to create little clusters and make them look even more playful. For my title, I chose “Fall Details” and placed it right above the photo where it overlaps the pumpkins and becomes part of the main focal point.
To finish everything off, I scattered a few small hearts, brads and enamel dots around the page and added some white paint splatters over the pumpkins and background. I love how those tiny finishing touches bring everything together.
And there we have it — one very colorful pumpkin patch! I had so much fun creating these pumpkins from scratch, and it’s also such an easy way to use lots of your favorite patterned papers on one layout. The embroidery thread adds that little handmade touch that makes them even more special.
