Autumn Breeze “Cozy Days” Blog Post by Gloria Parra
Hello friends! It’s Gloria Parra here today, bringing you a new project using the gorgeous Autumn Breeze Collection by Simple Stories. This collection is filled with the most beautiful fall colors, cozy textures, and charming icons that perfectly capture the magic of the season. As soon as I started flipping through the embellishments, one particular ephemera piece caught my eye — a stunning open window looking out at colorful fall trees, with a cute little shelf underneath. That piece immediately sparked my inspiration for this layout, and I decided to recreate that cozy window scene right on my page!
To begin, I chose the beautiful leaf patterned paper as my background — it adds such warmth and movement to the design. On top, I layered an 11¼” square of warm white Color Vibe cardstock, creating a soft frame that lets the fall tones shine through.
Next came the fun part — the windows! I reached for one of my favorite Simple Stories tools: the Page Templates. I love thinking outside the box with these templates, and this time, they were the perfect starting point for my interactive idea. Using the 2” x 2” grid template, I traced and cut out two window flaps, each made up of six squares. I used a gingham patterned paper for the flaps to give them that cozy farmhouse feel. To make them interactive, I left a ¼” border around each side of the flap and scored the edges, allowing the windows to open and close just like real shutters!
To complete the base, I created a shelf using a woodgrain Color Vibe cardstock, cut to 1” wide by 9” long, and adhered it across the bottom of my page. To add some detail and charm, I placed a scalloped cardstock sticker along the edge of the shelf and then adhered my two window flaps right above it.
Once the base was complete, I started working on the inside of my windows. For the left side, I chose a beautiful fall tree from the 6x8 paper pad, fussy cut it, and adhered it behind the window — it makes it look like you’re peeking out at a peaceful autumn day. On the right side, I added a 4x6 photo of myself surrounded by all my fall favorites. To make it stand out, I framed it using a green patterned paper from the same 6x8 pad, which brought balance and a touch of contrast to the composition.
Now for one of my favorite parts, decorating the shelf! I selected a chipboard piece with pumpkins and an open book. I added a little squirrel and a cup of coffee on top of the shelf to complete the cozy fall scene. All of these elements were adhered using foam adhesive, I made sure to only glue them down on the right side of the shelf, so the window flaps can still open freely. To finish this area, I tucked in leaves from the sticker sheets behind the shelf and around the window.
For the finishing details, I added a few journaling strips to tell my story and sprinkled in a couple of falling leaves from the sticker sheet to complete the movement across the page. I truly had the best time creating this interactive fall layout — it’s such a fun way to add movement and surprise to your scrapbook pages! I hope this project inspires you to give the idea a try. It’s easy, playful, and such a beautiful way to showcase your favorite photos.
