Hey crafty friends! It’s Cheryl here today with a fun Christmas project. I’m working with the Simple Vintage Christmas Lodge collection to create this adorable mini advent calendar.
When I think of a Christmas lodge I think of those big cabins in the woods I see on TV and wanted to create something that kind of represents them. Also, because it’s the holidays I wanted to incorporate an advent or some sort of countdown for the festive season.
I started by creating 3 little square boxes, 2 medium ones and one large box, using the red Color Vibe card and stacked them all on top of each other, with the smallest ones on the bottom. My boxes aren’t very deep, but they’re still big enough for a small treat or gift and you can definitely make them as big as you want.
I also added a triangle to the top to hold the roof in place, so this isn’t actually a box and won’t open. The roof is created by layering Color Vibe card and patterned paper for extra stability. I used liquid glue to hold it all in place and once I was done with the base of the cabin/advent I picked my favourite paper from the collection to decorate the calendar.
I went with fairly neutral colours for my house and added gold machine stitching to all the panels for extra detail. I cut out a little notch on all the doors (they open sideways by the way) to make it easier to open them and reveal your treat!
Once I was done adding my layering patterned paper, I wanted to add something that could look like snow. I added glitter and mini foam balls to the edges of the roof, to give it more of a realistic feel and of course embellished it with my favourite pieces! I love how the foam word sticker cluster (what a long word) draws your eyes to it straight away! I also used the Color Vibe foam stickers to add my numbers to the doors.
This is a fun and easy project and I show you a bit more in detail how I created it and how I put it together on my YouTube channel @cherylguerreiro.
I hope you’ll have as much fun as I did crafting with the Simple Vintage Christmas Lodge collection and I can’t wait to see your beautiful creations.
