In the Moonlight! by Cheryl Gerhard

In the Moonlight! by Cheryl Gerhard
Hey crafty besties! Cheryl here today on August 31st with a spooky mini album using the new Simple Vintage October 31st collection. It’s scary, but cute! Just look at those adorable cats.

I can’t tell you how excited I am about Halloween crafting this year. I’m still fairly new to it, as Halloween just isn’t that big over here where I live, but this collection is just so perfect. It’s traditional, scary but not too creepy. To kick off the season I created a mini album that lights up! Yes, you heard it right - there are real lights hiding behind the windows.

There is a layer of vellum behind each window, so the lights have a more diffused look. It looks incredible at night when it’s dark! I cut my front panel from patterned paper, as well as a back piece from solid black card from the Color Vibe range. I machine stitched around every window and the edge of my house front for more texture. The lights used are very thin and hide behind the front panel, which is propped up on foam tape.
Of course I had to feature my favourite cats on the cover!

The actual mini album is a basic chipboard album with hidden hinges. I used the house panel to see what size fits, cut out pieces of chipboard and covered them in black card. The inside of my chipboard cover is lined with the b-side of the Color Vibe card - how cool is that polka dot texture?! It’s the same paper, but gives you two different styles and it’s such a great basic to have in your crafty stash.

I also used Color Vibe card in orange for my signatures and I managed to fit a total of 3 into my album. I added lots of flip outs in various different sizes to create more space for journalling and photos. Each page/flip out is also layered with a different patterned paper and embellished with stickers, chipboard and foam stickers. The variety of papers in this collection add so much interest to each page and makes the embellishments stand out even more. I also had to do a double spread of this paper, because of the black & white cat (my cat is black/white). How could I not?!

For the closure I just used plain black ribbon and attached it to the front and back of my chipboard album to help it stay closed, especially once it’s filled with lots of photos and memories.

I hope this gave you inspiration to create something unique during this spooky season! If you want a closer look and see where the lights are hiding head over to my YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/Y8-h1XMbqSA

@ Shirley @ CinDY thank you both! I used a house front cut file from the silhouette design store for the front of the house – the rest of the album was created using chipboard covered in Color Vibe paper. I hope this helps! :)

Wow! Spectacular! I, too, would like to know how you made the haunted house. Is it a cut File? A metal die? Thanks!
