Birthday Cards

Birthday Cards
Hello cardmaking friends! Anya is here today and I am so excited to share my first project for Simple Stories this year and share a few cardmaking tips. Today I have a set of birthday cards that were created with the mini sets. To make these cards I used both the “Birthday” and “Happy New Year” collections. I loved that they coordinated well together and gave me more options to play with.
Tip #1: Don't be afraid to mix Simple Stories collections. Many of them coordinate very well. If I am running low on the paper from one of the collections, but still want to create a mini album with it, I pull paper from other Simple Stories collections and it works every time.
Tip #2: If elements don't fit well on the card, alter them. For this card I picked a large sticker word “birthday”, cut it into two parts, overlapped them slightly and used it on the card as my main element here. I love the way it turned out.
Tip #3: Repetition. This is one of my favorite design tips and I use it often. On this card I repeated a number of party hats, instead of one, I used two of them. Same thing with additional sentiments up on the pink balloon. And a line of numbers here are just for fun, in random order, but I love the way it adds to the design on this card.

My last tip for today: Layers. Don't be afraid that your layering covers some of the elements of your projects, layers always create visual interest! On this card, I created layers on my background and added layers on top of the “fussy cut green 3x4 element” that already had a design on it. By adding more layers to it make this card more fun and gave it a complete look.

I hope these tips were helpful to you and you were inspired by my birthday cards today. Thank you for visiting Simple Stories vlog today and make sure to stop by again soon for more inspiration!
