Hello Simple Stories friends, Gloria Parra here today with an awesome layout using the new Rustic Legend collection! I have to say, I completely fell in love with this collection—it is bold, fun, and such a refreshing way to document the men in our lives with a masculine yet playful vibe.

To start my layout, I chose the ledger patterned paper as my base. Then, I selected three different patterned papers from the collection: the colorful striped paper, the ruler paper, and the burgundy dashed line paper. I cut the burgundy paper to 5” x 12” and adhered it about 3.5” from the top edge of the layout to create a strong horizontal foundation.

Next, I worked on building my layered background. I cut three ruler strips and placed the black one above the burgundy strip, and two additional ruler pieces below it. To finish off the layers, I added strips of the colorful lined paper to both the top and bottom of the layout. I absolutely love how these layers bring in so much color and structure! I also added zigzag machine stitching along the borders to give it that extra texture and detail.

With my background ready, I adhered three 3x4 photos right across the center of the burgundy strip. To fill the space between the photos, I used a “Big Ideas” cut-apart card from the journaling sheet, which became the base for my main embellishment cluster.

For my focal point, I created a layered cluster using a denim pocket piece adhered with foam adhesive. I tucked in several ephemera pieces behind it—like they’re peeking out of the pocket—for a fun, dimensional look. I then added my foam title “Awesome” right on top, which really draws the eye to the center of the page.

I continued building two additional clusters to balance the layout. On the top right, I layered circular journaling pieces with a film strip and ticket behind them. At the bottom, I created a cluster with the yellow boots and word stickers that highlight all the amazing qualities of my husband. These clusters help guide the eye across the page while telling the story.

To finish everything off, I added foam stars, deco brads, and a mix of chipboard and foam arrows to each cluster. These small details add texture, movement, and that final touch of personality. I hope you’ve enjoyed this layout! If you’d like to see how it all came together, make sure to check out my process video on my YouTube channel. Thank you so much for stopping by—until next time!
Hugs, Gloria.
